The current lockdown in England will come to an end on December 2nd. Thereafter faith communities are able to offer public worship along with the Covid regulations familiar to us since June. At the Cathedral, Masses at the weekend will continue in the Cathedral itself.
However, weekday Masses will be held in the former convent chapel (aka “the Day Chapel”) where we recently hosted the hour of private prayer. This will enable work on an Emergency lighting system to be installed in the Cathedral Monday through Friday. It is hoped this work will begin on Monday November 30th and be completed sometime early in January 2021 with a break over Christmas. Starting Monday 30th November, and for the foreseeable future, except for Sunday Masses and Requiem Masses, Mass at the Cathedral will be hosted in the Day Chapel. The Chapel has a maximum seating capacity of 17. For the recent times of private prayer, the maximum number of people we accommodated was 12 so this move shouldn't present a problem. People from outside of the Cathedral parish please be aware of this restriction. We would not wilfully exclude anyone from the Sacraments.
Confessions will continue to be heard on Saturday mornings 11-midday in the Cathedral, starting from and including Saturday December 5th. 12.15 Mass on Saturday remains suspended. Please circulate this information amongst people you know who come to the Cathedral for these Sacraments. Fr Steve.
