Our Lady’s Catholic College 60th Anniversary
This academic year, as we are celebrating 60 years of Our Lady's Catholic
College, we are holding a Diamond Jubilee Mass at 6pm on Thursday 10th
July. We would like to invite you to join us for this special celebration.
The Mass will be held in school and there will be food served after Mass
with the opportunity to have a tour around school. There is ample free

The Bishop wrote to all the parishes in the Lancaster area last week-end proposing a merger of them into a single parish. The parishes affected are: the Cathedral, Hornby, Thurnham, St Bernadette’s and St Joseph’s. As you may remember the bishop wrote to us initially about the same matter in January. You might ask what this might mean. In essence it is not about Mass times or church closures, but rather about best use of resources by streamlining the administration of churches in Lancaster. The proposal would be for a single parish priest, with assistant priests, covering all the churches. The hope would be that a simplification of the structures (by reducing the number of parishes, which each require presently a separate admin structure) would enable us to focus onmission and leave the priests more free for pastoral work. The Bishop therefore wants to consult us on the positives and negatives of such an arrangement, before a firm decision is made. A separate consultation meetings will take place in each parish. If you wish to attend to put forward your own views on the matter it is asked that you attend the meeting for your parish of residence. Discussion will be limited to the matter of the proposed merger of parish structures, so as to keep a focus on this important matter.
The meetings for our parishes will be as follows:
Cathedral: Saturday 30th August 1pm in Cathedral House Library
Hornby: Saturday 30th August 5pm in St Mary’s Church
Minutes from these meetings will be used as formal feedback to the Bishop, and the Council of Priests, for any decision about merger of the parishes. You are also welcome to write to the Bishop directly with your views: Bishop’s Office, Pastoral Centre, Balmoral Road, Lancaster LA1 3BTWe live in a time of great change for the Church, both here in Lancaster and throughout the world. We are currently served by structures designed for a different era.
